ILAC Quarantine Chronicles DAY 9: Happy Friday, Toronto!

I am getting closer to my second weekend in Canada! I am feeling well and healthy, as I am still comfortably quarantining in my cozy apartment with the most amazing view on 21st floor of Parkside Residence. The self-isolation period has been very smooth and easy, thanks to ILAC’s 14-Day Self-Isolation Options and the ILAC Accommodation team – thank you!

As a newbie at ILAC, I am searching for specific ways to better understand and learn about all the opportunities that ILAC provides to students across the globe. I am delighted that I can join another free ILAC Virtual Workshop dedicated to students who want to access the world-leading higher education in Canada.

Today I joined the ILAC Pathway workshop and learned about how students can build their future by training and increasing their  English skills for academic purposes. Additionally, the completion of the pathway program exempts students from taking an IELTS or TOEFL test to get into college or university in Canada. The majority of ILAC’s 80+ pathway partners will accept you right after your successfully finishing the program.

It was already 11 a.m. Toronto time when I connected with the rest of the students and the teacher Dave via a Zoom link from an email invitation. I personally have never studied at ILAC, however I have heard from numerous Slovak students how fun, supportive, encouraging and patient the lecturers are. Turns out it is so true! I was surprised how involved I found myself in the class. I loved the dynamics, how Dave patiently explained the topics and meanings of new words, and I truly enjoyed all the assignments we had to do.

There was one exercise where all of the students were split into small groups of 3 in order to find out some information about each other. I met lovely people from Brazil and Japan. Although the time was limited and we only had a couple of minutes to complete this, we all exercised our English skills and shared great laughs together. If you have not experienced ILAC’s virtual workshops, I encourage you to try one. All you need to do is to register via link that will be send by your ILAC representative and then show up. I am sure you will find the workshops informative, valuable and fun.

Fridays are usually my favourite days as you can wrap up all the tasks and responsibilities from the week and enter your weekend with time for more fun and possibilities to recharge. Time in self-isolation is no different. ILAC gives you many possibilities to join online activities where you can connect with students from various countries and find friends while doing productive activities that are fun.  You can join a chess class, dance classes, or even cooking sessions and many more. If you want to entertain yourself check out the ILAC Activities schedule and join the activities that suit you best!

Another day full of excitement and learning, it’s funny but I’ve been so busy I don’t have time to feel bored or alone. I am ready to enjoy my second weekend in Canada! Good night!
