ILAC: Standing Up for Human Rights

Dear Friends,ย

It is not our practice to take a position onย globalย events, butย theย brutalย murder of George Floyd, seen by the world,ย speaks to our core values at ILAC.ย ย ย

We are remindedย of the power that racism has to divide and destroy, not only in the US, but also in our own country of Canada.ย

Thisย recentย tragedy brings to the forefront the fears, injusticesย and systemicย racism that Black communities have faced for generations.ย As an organization, ILACย supportsย the global movementย ofย standing up for human rights.ย There is no place for racism, hatredย and oppression in our society.ย ย

As human beings, we allย haveย theย responsibility not only to condemn discrimination, but also to take action to promote inclusivity and equity forย everyone.ย This includes taking time to listen to and empathize with theย voices and perspectivesย of those who experience oppressionย and to continuouslyย reflect on our own privilege, biasesย and assumptions.ย ย

โ€ฏAt ILAC,ย our values areย acceptance and respect toward everyone, regardless of their background, raceย or religion.โ€ฏDiversity in our workplace and in the classroom defines our distinctive culture and school community.ย

Over the past 23 years, we have observed that whenย students from different backgrounds share a classroom they see each other as human beings and not through the lens of their historical biases. We believe that international education is one of the most powerful ways to change the world.ย ย

Our heartsย are with all theย Black Americans and Black Canadians who are grieving and speaking out.ย They deserve to live a lifeย of freedom, as we all deserve to.ย

ย

With love,ย

Jonathan Kolber,ย

CEO, ILACย
