ILAC Quarantine Chronicles DAY 14: Last day of quarantine!

I am at the end of my quarantine journey as today is the last day of my self-isolation! I made it! I could not be more excited and ready to go out and explore. I now completely understand what people mean by saying we take many things for granted. I realize that our freedom is everything these days and we should be embracing what we have every day.

My plan for today is going to be easy. I just need to finish work, work out again, pack my stuff and prepare myself for moving to another temporary home until I find my permanent nest In Toronto.

Today, I wanted to sum up the few steps regarding the Covid testing prior and during the first 14 days in Canada. The processes after arrival with PCR testing are easy to follow once you know what is required.

Here is the current checklist:

  1. Have negative Covid-19 PCR test completed within 72 hours prior your flight departure.

  1. Take the Covid-19 PCR test at the airport right after you arrive in Canada.

  1. Receive a free of charge self-testing kit for Covid-19 at the airport; this test must be completed on 10th day of your quarantine; your arrival day counts as day 1.

  1. Transfer to the government-approved hotel for the 3-day mandatory hotel quarantine and wait for the negative results taken at the airport after arrival to Canada.

  1. For Toronto only: ILAC has booked a nurse to come to you on day 14 to administer your Covid-19 PCR test (final testing should take up to 10 minutes). Wait for your negative result (your result should be available in 48 hours); this final test costs $300 and is mandatory.

Please make sure to always double-check you have the most current information by contacting your ILAC representative, ILAC Accommodation Department or your local agency.

I am already packed and ready to take my last mental picture of this view downtown Toronto. I feel very blessed that I can be here and follow my dreams, but honestly I think everyone can – you can too. All it takes is a decision, a solid plan, focus and a commitment to grow no matter the outer circumstances.

I wish you plenty of courage and strength with a pinch of luck on your own journey to Canada, the land of opportunities! I hope the ILAC Quarantine Chronicles will help you to prepare yourself for this amazing ride through your life-changing experience you will never forget!

See you in Canada!
